At first you don’t succeed

Or, how I got into knitting/yarn dying…

One of the things I’ve realized over the years is that it can take a while to find your niche. Like many people, I started at looking into various hobbies like scrap-booking, jewelry making, and others until I really fell in love with knitting. It didn’t start easy, and I made a lot of mistakes along the way, but I stuck with it and have now grown to really love it. As my husband can attest, my hobby has quickly turned into my obsession.

Speaking of my husband, I’d like to thank him for being so supportive and helping me with all of my collateral including this website. He is a web designer, user experience expert, and a big NBA Basketball fan. In particular, he loves the San Antonio Spurs. He told me something about persistence that coach Pop uses in his locker room. It’s entitled, “Pounding the Rock.” It goes like this:

“When nothing seems to help, I go look at a stonecutter hammering away at his rock, perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it. Yet at the hundred and first blow it will split in two, and I know it was not that blow that did it, but all that had gone before.”

I look at finding your muse in the same way.

My yarn stash has grown from one small corner in our home office to an entire craft room with an adjacent bedroom/office. I’ve picked up spinning and purchased my first wheel a little over a year ago. I’ve attended many meet-ups and knitting groups, and of course followed the many great podcasts and knitalongs across the web. It’s an amazing adventure and one I’m happy I took, but in the beginning it wasn’t easy.

Hopefully, like me, you are interested in alternative ways to express yourself through yarn. After all, that is why I created this site: to experiment with colors and dyes that I wasn’t seeing in the marketplace or that were too unconventional to be sold in your typical yarn shop or boutique.

Enjoy what you find here and be sure to drop me a line if you have any questions.
